Wardrobe planning
Capsule wardrobe basics: fewer pieces, more outfits
A capsule wardrobe is a short list of pieces that mix and match. It makes getting dressed faster and shopping more deliberate.
Start with what you wear
Look at what you actually wore over the last month. Those items show your real style and the gaps worth filling.
Pick a color base
Choose two or three neutrals, such as navy, gray, cream or black, and one or two accent colors. When most pieces share a base, almost everything matches.
Core pieces
- Two or three plain tops or shirts
- One pair of dark jeans and one pair of tailored trousers or chinos
- A knit sweater
- A versatile jacket and a warm coat
- Shoes you can wear all day
Buy for fabric and fit
Fewer pieces means each one gets worn more, so fabric quality matters. Check the fabric content and the size chart before price.
Check in each season
Swap out what no longer fits your life rather than adding more.
